Aloha! Welcome to Makana Art
What is a "Makana?" Makana's hawaiian translation is "Gift."
As a Hapa-Hawaiian (half-Hawaiian) I was influenced by my Maui surroundings as a child and their beautiful colors used for their art-work. Most of the hand-made art-work that I remember as a child was the beautiful crocheted pearl necklaces my Auntie would make for my Grandmother.
I have spent many days as a young person playing and exploring the Pacific Ocean, both in Hawaii and on the mainland coast in California. So many of my ocean life creations have similar influences.
The last twenty years I have enjoyed living within the Mississippi Gulf Coast art communities. The people here are friendly and have a true southern way that cannot be matched anywhere.
Over the past few years I have developed friendships that have influenced me to create works of art that I have given away as gifts of love. These friends have supported my creativity and have come up with numerous "gift art" ideas.
The latest idea presented to me by my friends and family was to branch out and try sharing some of my handmade gift art with the local and online communities.
So, "Makana Art" (also known as "Gift" Art) was born.
All of our products are handmade, unique and one-of-a-kind. If you order art gifts from our site, you will be receiving a piece of art that is like no other. Each will be different and unique to it's own.
So, please keep in mind that if you order more than one, there will be differences in each.
We specialize in original handmade fused glass art and jewelry, canvas art, pottery, candles, bath and body products. Occasionally we will offer other unique seasonal items.
